Scope

This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by Sterling Infosystems and Sterling Corporation on www.sterlingicheck.com and is designed to ensure that visitors to this website understand how and why the Sterling I-Check website collects and uses information provided by users of the site.

INFORMATION COLLECTION AND USE

Personal Information

This website allows you to request a Sterling background check and manage access by others to the background report. You will be required to provide identifying information such as your name, street address, and social security number. You will also be asked to answer a series of questions to authenticate your identity before a Sterling background report can be produced.

The information you provide will be used to obtain the background report and support your ongoing relationship with Sterling I-Check. It will be used to inform you via email about I-Check updates and new features and other products and services from Sterling Corporation.

Sterling I-Check may use contractors and other service providers to help us deliver content and fulfill requests made at this site. However, in these instances, the information which you have provided remains the property of Sterling Infosystems.

In addition, Sterling reserves the right to disclose your personally identifiable information as required by law or when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process.

In the event Sterling Infosystems is purchased, data collected on this site will be one of the transferred assets.

Anonymous Information

Sterling I-Check may provide anonymous aggregated information, such as the number of visitors to the site or the results of a survey, with our partners and third parties to develop suggestions to improve the accessibility of the website and improve the services provided on the site.

Technologies

Sterling I-Check uses various technologies to help us understand which parts of our websites are most visited and understand traffic patterns between pages on www.sterlingicheck.com.

Cookies: This site may uses cookies for the purpose of tailoring web content to match your browser capability. These cookies do not store or are linked to any personally identifiable information until you sign up and provide personally identifiable data. From that point forward, all information collected by the site may be personally identifiable. Sterling I-Check may also use third party cookies to count the number of visitors to particular pages as well as navigation between web pages.

You can set your Internet browser to notify you when you receive a cookie, giving you the chance to decide whether or not to accept it. If you reject the cookie, you may still use this site. The only drawback is that you may be limited in the functionality of some areas.

Sensors: In order to determine your ability to receive HTML-based email messages, such as acknowledging your request for a background report and other promotional messages, Sterling I-Check may include a coded sensor in its HTML-based email messages. The sensor activates when the email message is opened and flags the email address of the recipient as one that is capable of receiving HTML-based email messages. This capability helps us to send the email in a format you can read, to allow us to track the aggregate number of emails read and to measure in aggregate if any of the links in the email were accessed. No other information is collected or used by the sensor. If the recipient cannot receive HTML, the recipient will not receive a functioning sensor.

Log Files: We use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, track users’ movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use in improving the site. IP addresses may be linked to personally identifiable information when website visitors register and personally identifiable information to obtain a background report.
